How a badge is awarded

Each trade guide ranks the businesses named on the permits filed with each permit office in the last 12 months, by how many they filed.
Ranks 1 to 10 earn a badge for the year, if the business filed at least 10 of those permits and has a contractor page.
The rankings are rebuilt every night. A badge stays for the rest of the calendar year at the best rank the business reached, even if it later drops out of the top 10.
It measures how many permits a business files, not the quality of its work, its prices or its license. Check a license with the contractor checker.
Permit expediting services and placeholder names (such as "owner" or "plan review") are left out. Nobody can buy or apply for a badge.
