The North Carolina ZIP codes with the most new construction in 2026

Wendell's 27591 led the state, ahead of east Durham and Knightdale. Charlotte had six of the busiest fifteen, and Brunswick County had two more.

New construction in North Carolina isn't spread evenly. Of the 21,891 addresses that got a new-construction permit from January through September 2026 in the offices TarSignal reads, the fifteen busiest ZIP codes held more than one in four. Most sit on the edges of the Triangle and Charlotte, plus the Brunswick County coast.

Eastern Wake is the busiest corner of the state

Three of the top fifteen are on Wake County's eastern side: Wendell (998 addresses), Knightdale (541) and Zebulon (352), together nearly 1,900 new homes in nine months. It's the cheapest land within commuting distance of Raleigh, and the national builders have followed it there.

Charlotte builds in volume, at lower stated values

Six Charlotte ZIP codes made the list, plus Huntersville. Their median stated values, $144,000 to $230,000, look low next to Wake or Brunswick, but that's mostly how Mecklenburg County records value on a permit, not a sign of cheaper houses. Compare values within a county, not across counties.

The coast and Gaston fill out the list

Brunswick County's Leland and Shallotte, at $441,000 and $418,000, have the highest values of the busiest ZIPs after Belmont in Gaston County, where 342 addresses had a median stated value of $462,000.
