Then, ten minutes with Monday's list

  1. 01

    Skim for your scope

Each week's list mixes trades and project types. Read the descriptions and pull out the ones that need your work.

  2. 02

    Reach out the same day

A GC pricing a job takes the call early in the week and stops taking it by Thursday. Same-day beats same-week, every time.

  3. 03

    Keep a follow-up list

Projects you can't work yet aren't dead. Foundations get poured in weeks; finish trades get hired months later. The permit tells you roughly when to call back.

Want it daily, with the contractor's name and number? That's TarSignal Pro — every coverage area and trade, the day permits post. See Project Alerts →

Every lead, scored Hot, Warm or Cold.

Each alert lands on your dashboard as a call list, scored for your trade on how good a fit the job is, how recent, how big, and whether there's someone to call — with the reasons on every card, so you know where to start.

Hot

Call this week

A project that will need your trade, nobody of your trade on it yet, and a phone or email to reach them.

Alteration / Remodel

$90,162 · New Hanover County

88

Why: An alteration / remodel project that will need HVAC work. No HVAC permit filed at the address yet. Value above the median for New Hanover County alteration / remodel permits. Contractor's phone on the permit.

Warm

Worth a follow-up

A good fit that's missing something: no phone or email yet, older, or a smaller job.

Addition

$1,057,301 · New Hanover County

79

Why: An addition project that will need roofing work. No roofing permit filed at the address yet. Value in the top quarter of New Hanover County addition permits. Contractor named, no phone or email.

Cold

Taken or not yours

Usually a permit for your own trade, which means another company already has the job, or a lead with too little to go on.

Electrical

New Hanover County

42

Why: An electrical permit with no contractor named on it.

Real leads from a New Hanover County alert, street addresses left off.

Free: your weekly alert, scored. Pro: every day, with the contractor and phone wherever the permit lists them.

Material Leads · TarSignal Pro

The order you haven't been asked to quote yet.

By the time a framing permit is filed, the lumber is bought. Material Leads reads the permit history at each address, works out which build stage hasn't been permitted yet, and gives you the window before that material is ordered — with the contractor to call.

Covers Raleigh, Wilmington, Asheville today — the metros with enough permit history to calibrate the timing.

Reviews

Straight from the trades.

What contractors and suppliers who use TarSignal say about it, in their own words.

I was checking the county site maybe twice a week and still missing stuff. Now I just look at the daily email in the morning and call the ones that make sense. Landed a couple residential jobs last month I probably would've found out about too late.
Marcus T.HVAC · Charlotte
Material Leads is decent. Not magic, but if a framing permit comes in and nothing's been pulled for electrical or plumbing yet, I'll reach out. Sometimes the GC already has people, sometimes they don't. Better than guessing.
Priya S.Supplier · Raleigh area
The town vs county thing used to be annoying. Some jobs only show up on one side. At least this pulls from both so I'm not bouncing between sites as much. Still have to double-check the scope myself.

Common questions

How is this different from Angi or HomeAdvisor?+

You aren't buying a shared lead. These are public permit filings: the project exists, the scope is real, and no one is bidding against four other contractors who bought the same phone number.

Where does the data come from?+

From the public building permit records of each county and city permit office we cover, pulled straight from their own systems at least once a day. We clean each record into one format, remove duplicates where a city and its county list the same permit, and add the contractor's details where the office publishes them. We don't buy leads and we don't make anything up: every permit traces back to an official filing you can look up at the permit office.

Which areas do you cover?+

North Carolina: Charlotte, the Triangle, the Triad, Wilmington, Asheville, Onslow County and Cumberland County, including the county systems and the towns that run their own permitting. The Help Center lists every one. The rest of the state isn't covered yet. Check your ZIP on the homepage: if we don't cover it, join its waitlist and we'll email you the day it switches on.

What's in TarSignal Pro?+

Everything we make, for $199 a month. For the people doing the work: a daily list of new permits with contractor contacts, matched to your trade and areas, plus the Permit Map, Permit Search including the newest permits, and Permit Pulse. For the people selling materials: Material Leads, which reads the permit history at each address to flag which build stage hasn't been permitted yet, so you can quote before the order is placed. Material Leads covers Raleigh, Wilmington and Asheville today.

I find work through referrals. Why do I need this?+

Referrals are the best work you get, they're just not a pipeline you control. Permits fill the weeks between them with projects that are already funded and approved, and the permit tells you who's building, where and roughly when.
